Winter Vehicle Prep Basics
What a gorgeous Fall we’ve had here in NH! It’s hard to imagine that in just a matter of weeks we’ll be officially in Winter mode.
New England Winters can wreak havoc on our vehicles so take the time now to properly prepare. Standing in the sleet or freezing rain isn't the best time to realize that you do not have an ice scraper or that your wiper blades are no good…we’ve all been there at least once!
Wether (no pun intended) you plan to garage your vehicle for the Winter or continue using it as your daily driver, we have complied a list of things to consider before the first snow falls.
DETAILS MATTER
Wipers blades - check to make sure they are not cracked or streaking. Most auto part stores will install them for you.
Battery terminals - your battery has more work to do in the cold. Be sure your terminals are free of corrosion.
Tires - consider a set of dedicated Winter tires for your vehicle. There are a number of local as well as online retailers to help you choose the right ones for your vehicle.
Snow Broom - our recommended snow removal tool. It has a large, foam head on one end and a traditional ice scraper on the other. The non abrasive head is a safer alternative to the stiff bristles of a snow brush that can cause scratching.
Anti-freeze - check and top off. Be sure engine is cooled down before opening.
Wiper fluid - top off and be sure to have extra on hand. You will need it!
Clean and protect your exterior - snow and ice can be very unforgiving to the paint on your vehicle. At minimum we recommend starting with an exterior wash and sealant. From there you can explore other options such as ceramic coating and paint protection film based on your specific needs and budget.
Clean and protect your interior - dirt and salt can cause significant staining during the Winter months. Upgrading your floor mats is one way to add a layer of protection for your carpets or you could consider one of our interior coating packages for more protection.
Speaking of protection, to guard against the spread of germs and bacteria we recommend a deep interior cleaning of your vehicle to target the hard surfaces where they live. A study published by Ashton University Found that a typical steering wheel could have 700 different types of bacteria, where a toilet seat only has 60 different types.
We’ve had an unbelievable 9 months in our new location in Greenland. As we head into the colder months we are grateful that our large, heated garage space allows us to offer all of our interior and exterior packages year round!
